November is science month and what a fantastic time we had, becoming scientists and explorers, trying something new and seeing how things around us work.

Healthy Eating: We looked at the food pyramid and how healthy food helps our bodies to grow, how exercise helps us feel strong and getting out to get some fresh air helps us feel happier.

Dental Hygiene: Our egg experiment looks at the damage sugar can do on our teeth, we used water, orange juice, ribena and coke, did you know that an egg shell is similar to the enamel on our teeth, we like water because it was the only one that kept the egg clean and fresh. The coke and ribena made the egg shells very black while the orange juice dissolved the egg shell.

Volcanoes: Our imaginations were in full flow as we created our very own volcano. Firstly, we made some play dough, shaped it into a volcano shape and filled the core with baking powder, we added vinegar to it and the volcano exploded pouring lava down along the sides of it, this is called a chemical reaction. We looked at pictures of real volcanos, spoke about what they are made of, where are they located in the world and lots more.

Bubble & Ice Painting: it’s great to experiment with different ways to use our imagination, bubble painting was so much fun but we had to remember only to blow the paint, bubble painting builds our fine motor skills and breath control while encouraging our creativity. Ice painting strengthens our sensory awareness and hand muscles as we explore textures, temperatures and how the ice melts at our touch.

Nature: as the weather changes and it gets colder in winter, we discuss how we can look after the animals in the wild especially the birds, we made bird feeders with cheerio’s, building our fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination while encouraging kindness, patience, and care for nature

Outside play: we love to play outside and wrap up warm before we go out, running, cycling, climbing, balancing all help develop our gross motor skills and physical strength while it also helps us develop resilience in different weather conditions. Playing outside also supports our social skills, curiosity, and sensory exploration as we feel the seasonal changes together

Sand & water play: It’s just great fun and it also encourages our creativity, social interaction, and imaginative play as we experiment and explore together, building, floating, sharing, and discovering how things work through hands-on play

Christmas: what a great time we’ve had decorating the playschool with all our Christmas art and crafts, we were especially delighted to have our parents come and play with us at our Christmas fair. Thank you to everyone who supported our raffle and congratulations to our winners.

We hope you have a wonderful, peaceful Christmas and we look forward to welcoming you all back on 5th January 2026.

New year: our learning will focus on our emotional development, recognising our feelings and understanding and managing our emotions as we learn and play
